Most chocolate syrups are made from water, processed cocoa powder and sugar. The water is rarely purified, the cocoa is exposed to high temperatures and the sugar is bleached and refined. In addition, they contain caramel colors, gums, phosphoric acid, and artificial flavors as well as potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate as preservatives.

Want a different kind of chocolate syrup?

One that contains antioxidants with an ORAC score of 25,400 μmol TE/100 g (254 μmol TE/g)? How about chocolate syrup that does not contain any preservatives, gums or artificial ingredients?

Ingredient #1:
Agave syrup is a delicious natural sweetener, milder than honey, made from the blue agave plant, a cactus that grows in the desert.

Ingredient #2:
This delicious raw chocolate syrup also contains raw cacao powder. Raw cacao powder comes from the bean that would eventually become chocolate. Unlike chocolate, however, these beans are never heated and they still retain most of their natural antioxidants. While the ORAC score on fresh blueberries is around 32 (per gram), this natural raw chocolate syrup boasts of a ORAC score of 245 micromoles TE per gram, proving it is loaded with natural antioxidants!

"healthy chocolate milk!"

on 3/15/2012 8:13:14 PM

Remarks: Delicious! I've now had it in oatmeal and just made chocolate milk with it. A little goes a long way. Put way too much in the oatmeal and it was too sweet but put maybe a half teaspoon into 10 oz of raw milk and it was perfect. The one issue I have is the consistency. It's more like a very thick icing than syrup.
